Teaching and research assistantships allow you to help your school and your school to help you. Most programs require that you work for about 20 hours a week, assisting the professor with class discussions, grading papers, tutoring students, etc. In return, you receive a salary to help you pay for your schooling; or in some cases, your tuition is reduced or even waived.
Such programs are offered in most all areas of study. And because you will be teaching in your field of study, you’ll find many more benefits than just financial aid. You’ll be able to develop your own skills, experience and knowledge. Speak with your school’s financial aid office for more information about assistantship availability at your graduate or professional school.
