Types of Colleges
Not all colleges are the same. Some are focused entirely on teaching you a trade (technical and vocational colleges) and others require you take courses related to your major, plus math, science, literature, etc. (community colleges and four-year colleges). The profession you choose may help you decide which college is right for you. If you’re not sure what profession you’d like to pursue, check out the Occupational Handbook.  Also, be sure to review our College Criteria List for more help determining which college to attend. To compare college types, cost, setting types and even teacher-to-student ratio use What's Next Illinois' Compare Schools to gather information.
