Assessment Testing
Different types of graduate and professional schools require that you take different types of assessment tests for admission. The most popular tests include the GMAT for advanced study in business and management, the MCAT for medical school, the LSAT for law school, and the GRE for graduate school.

GMAT

If you’re interested in earning a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) or other graduate-management degree, you may be required to take the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT). Used to assess your qualifications for advanced study in business and management, this test measures your basic verbal, mathematical and analytical-writing skills through the following three sections: the Analytical Writing Assessment, the Quantitative Section and the Verbal Section.

MCAT

If you would like to study medicine, you will be required to take the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT). This exam tests your problem-solving, critical-thinking and writing skills in areas such as verbal reasoning, physical sciences, writing and biological sciences.

LSAT

If you would like to study law, you will be required to take the Law School Admission Test (LSAT). This four- to five-hour exam measures your reading and verbal-reasoning skills. Sections include logical reasoning (arguments), analytical reasoning (games), reading comprehension, an experimental section and a writing sample.

GRE

If you plan to attend graduate school, you may be required to take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). This test consists of three multiple-choice sections, including quantitative, analytical and verbal sections. You’ll also be required to complete an essay in the writing assessment section. This test measures your vocabulary, mathematical, and inductive- and deductive-reasoning skills.
