Is your son or daughter a recent high school graduate who plans to go away to college in the fall? If so, the Student Zone's Prep for College Life page will provide them with tips for succeeding in the classroom and adjusting to residential life on campus. The Parent Zone also includes a similar page with tips for parents, like you, whose child will be living on a college campus for the first time.
A State Legislative Update, dated June 16, 2008, contains the most recent status of bills which pertain to ISAC-administered programs and education in general.
If your son or daughter plans to attend college in the upcoming fall, check out the 2008-09 edition of the U.S. Department of Education's Funding Education Beyond High School: The Guide to Federal Student Aid. Information, including how to apply, is provided regarding grant, loan and work-study programs available through the Federal Student Aid office.
A June 11th e-Message reminds families to work closely with the college's financial aid office regarding any questions or concerns they may have about the availability and/or processing of education loans.
As part of a planned interest rate reduction, subsidized undergraduate loans made through the Federal Stafford Loan Program that are disbursed on or after July 1, 2008 and on or before June 30, 2009, will carry an interest rate of 6.0% (subsidized graduate loans and all unsubsidized loans will continue to have a fixed interest rate of 6.8%, and Federal PLUS Loans will continue to have a fixed rate of 8.5%). A chart outlining interest rates for all Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP) loans (effective July 1, 2008) is available at Student Aid on the Web.
