2010-11 HSSP Processing Cycle
As announced in a April 14th e-Message, the new processing cycle of the State Scholar and the Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship programs [collectively referred to as the High School Scholarship Programs (HSSP)] will begin in May 2010. High Schools are encouraged to sign-up for the HSSP Electronic Delivery System, which utilizes the Illinois Electronic Transcript Exchange Program system to transmit data, before the new cycle begins.
Processing information:
- In May, ISAC will start accepting sixth semester data from high schools, which is used in determining eligibility for students who will be college freshmen during the 2011-12 academic year.
- High schools utilizing the HSSP Electronic Delivery System must update their school profiles each year. Instructions for updating the school profile are provided in the HSSP Electronic Delivery System Quick Reference Guide, which can be accessed via the Illinois Electronic Data Exchange Resources section of the e-Library's Job Aids & Reference Materials.
- School-Generated Sixth Semester Rosters will be accepted through September 30. 2010. High schools that meet the September 30th deadline will avoid receiving an ISAC-Generated paper roster in October
The program overview, delivery process and timeframes, instructions regarding the submission of the required sixth semester data and the required data and requested disqualification codes that must be included on a school-generated roster available within this section.
HSSP Electronic Data System
ISAC, in conjunction with Xap Corporation, has developed a system that provides a means for high schools to electronically submit sixth semester student data (used to determine eligibility for the High School Scholarship Programs [HSSP]) via the same portal used for the Illinois Electronic Transcript Exchange (ILTE). Benefits of the system include:
- elimination of paper rosters
- reduction in resources required to complete paper rosters
- increased security of students' data
- elimination of mail time and uncertainty of data reaching ISAC
- fewer opportunities for data entry errors
- easier revision/correction process
- increased "green" efficiencies (environmental and financial) resulting from less paper and energy use
Feedback from high schools that participated in last year's HSSP Electronic Delivery System pilot program, has been overwhelmingly positive, and confirms the fact that the electronic process is much easier and more convenient than working with paper rosters. Participation is easy and adds only a few additional steps to the current process for sending electronic transcripts to colleges.
Detailed information regarding the HSSP Electronic Delivery System, including frequently asked questions, a recorded training presentation and a Quick Reference Guide, is available in the Job Aids & Reference Materials area (#12) of the e-Library, under Illinois Electronic Data Exchange Resources.
High schools interested in participating in the HSSP Electronic Delivery System program in academic year 2010-11 (for 2011-12 awardees) are invited to contact School Services at schoolservices@isac.org or at 866.247.2172.
Announcement of Finalists
The Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) announced the 2010-11 State Scholars on November 24, 2009. A congratulatory letter was sent directly to each high school senior who is designated as a State Scholar for the 2010-11 academic year. An online listing of 2010-11 State Scholars displays each State Scholar alphabetically by high school, within the school's Illinois county.
A Certificate of Achievement was mailed to the high school for their State Scholars to be distributed according to each school's preference. The Non-Finalist Rosters mailed in previous years, were not included with the Certificates of Achievement mailing. Schools will need to determine non-finalists based on the sixth-semester roster data they submitted to ISAC.
Additional details regarding the Illinois State Scholar selection process with links to the online listing of 2010-11 State Scholar finalists, the formula used in the selection process, a copy of the congratulatory letter sent to students, a sample press release to use in announcing this year's State Scholars and appeal guidelines are available within the State Scholar Program section of the ISAC Gift Assistance Programs area.
