A July 1, 2008 press release from the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) announces that Illinois is one of six states chosen by the U.S. Department of Education (ED) to participate in a federal 'Differentiated Accountability' pilot program, which provides additional flexibility and tools to assist schools in meeting federal No Child Left Behind (NCLB) requirements. Among the benefits that will result from participation in the pilot program is that low-performing schools in Illinois will be able to offer additional tutoring to students earlier in the process. Portions of the program will begin to be implemented during the 2008-09 school year, with full implementation scheduled for the 2009-10 year.
The press release is available at the ISBE Web site.
